Welcome to SocalFauna.net!

From beaches to deserts, coastal canyons to snow-capped mountains, oak woodlands to populous cities, Southern California offers a little bit of everything. Partly because of this great ecological diversity, the region also boasts an immense diversity of plants and animals. Despite prolific human development, tens of thousands of different species make their home in Southern California, and many of those are found nowhere else in the world. This website was built with the Southern California naturalist in mind, with the goal of attempting to document the rich biodiversity of the region.

To get started, click one of the images above to browse the indexed species for a given group. Looking for something specific? Try using the Search to find exactly what you're looking for, or try Location Search to generate checklists for specific locations.
