Cottony Cushion Scale Parasite (Cryptochetum iceryae)

Native to Australia and intentionally introduced into California in the 1880s alongside the Vedalia Beetle as a means of biological control against the Cottony Cushion Scale (Icerya purchasi). The Cottony Cushion Scale Parasite is the only member of the family Cryptochaetidae established in North America.
